Ta recenzja powstawała przez ostatnie dwa tygodnie. Szczerze mówiąc nie mogłam się zebrać żeby usiąść i ją napisać ale w końcu mi się udało. Także zapraszam do czytania :)
Długo zastanawiałam się jaka właściwie ryba jest w tytule książki, a internetowe słowniki nie były najbardziej pomocne w odnalezieniu polskiej nazwy. W końcu udało mi się ustalić, że mullet to po polsku cefal lub barwena. Zagadka tytułu rozwikłana. Chociaż nie zupełnie, bo nadal nie wiemy kto został zamordowany, dlaczego i kto był sprawcą. Ale to za chwilę.
Najpierw poznajmy głównych bohaterów:
Percival Pettijohn - wybrał się ze swojego domu w Kentucky do New Homosassa na Florydzie by obejrzeć domy na sprzedaż. Zastanawia się nad zmianą miejsca zamieszkania, szczególnie w sezonie zimowym. A przynajmniej taki jest oficjalny powód. Wszędzie nosi ze sobą kamerę, wpędza go w kłopoty.
Cornelia Pettijohn - siostrzenica/bratanica Percivala, towarzyszy mu w podróży. Jest świadkiem bójki w pociągu.
Theodore "Teddy" Lawless - towarzyszka podróży Cornelii (i Percivala). Jest emerytowaną pielęgniarką wojskową. Uwielbia tańczyć i nie wyobraża sobie wieczoru bez kieliszka (albo kilku) czegoś mocniejszego, choć nastpnego ranka ma ochotę umierać.
Akcja książki dzieje się w latach 20 XX wieku. Widać że autorki dobrze przygotowały się do pisania, bo czytając czuję się atmosferę tamtych lat :).
Bohaterowie zmierzają do New Homosassa na Florydzie, gdzie organizowana jest sprzedaż działek budowlanych. Są niemal u celu kiedy auto odmawia posłuszeństwa. Pomaga im agent nieruchomości i w niedługim czasie docierają do miasteczka Ocala, skąd następnego dnia wyruszą rybnym pociągiem do celu. Pasażerowie są świadkami bójki dwójki ludzi, którzy później okazują się być członkami ich "wycieczki".
Gdy jeden z nich umiera następnego dnia, policja wszczyna śledztwo. Wtedy wychodzi na jaw niechlubna przeszłość zmarłego i fakt, że większość grupy mogła mieć motyw by go zabić.
Gdy wszystkie dowody (a przynajmniej te, które pasują do obrazu malowanego przez zastępcę szeryfa) wskazują na Percivala, Cornelia z pomocą Teddy muszą odnaleźć prawdziwego mordercę zanim ten popełni następną zbrodnię i doszczętnie pogrąży profesora.
Czy uda im się znaleźć winnego i odkryć motyw jego działania? Przeczytajcie książkę a z pewnością się dowiecie.

I spend a lot of time looking which fish is in the title. I finally found the answer, so it was one riddle less, but still I didn't know who was murdered and who was murderer. First, let's meet the characters:
Percival Pettijohn - travels from Kentucky to New Homosassa, Florida; wants to look at winter home, at least thats official version :P. He takes his camera everywhere, which sometimes gets him in trouble.
Cornelia Pettijohn - Percival's niece, travels with him to New Homosassa, couse she wants to have on eye on Percy
Theodore "Teddy" Lawless - companion of Cornelia (and Percival); she is an ex-army nurse; she loves to dance and can't imagine an evening without a glass of some alcohol (even if next morning she is dying C: )
I can honestly say that while reading "Murder on the Mullet Express" you can feel climate of that time :)
Our characters travel to New Homosassa, Florida, where there is a land sale. They are close to the town when Cornelia's car has an accident. Fortunately Peter Rowley, a land agent, helps them get to Ocala. Next day they travel by Mullet Express to this town, and are wittnesses to the fight of two passangers. Later they learn that both men are part of thier land sale party.
When one of the two men dies, police starts an investigation. They learn that almost everyone had a motive to kill him.
When the evidence points to Percival (at least that part of it that police seems to care about), Cornelia and Teddy have to find the real murderer before he (or she) completely destroy Percy's reputation.
Will they find the guilty and his/her motive? Read the book to find out!

9/2017 Jak ukraść dziecko, czyli dlaczego powinno się zamykać drzwi.

Chwilowo tylko po angielsku, jak będę miała troszkę czasu pojawi się i polska wersja :)

Meghan an Jon seem to have everything: they are young, in love, have their own home, good jobs, and the most important thing - they got blessed with child, a boy named Harry. But not all is as it seems... Harry was born with potentially deadly disease - even something simple as common cold could end up killing him.
Everything starts on the day of their third anniversary. First, there is some lady with Cornish accent standing over Harry when Meghan was with him shopping and left him alone for a few seconds. Next there is mysterious golden Volvo parked nearby their home. What worse, there is a child snacher in town.
Then happens unthinkable: someone takes Harry from his room. Police is looking for him, but there isn't much they can do. When it seems nothing more can go wrong Jon first accuses Meghan that she has affair with neighbor, Treve, then, when she doesn't confess to it, he hits her and leaves.
When her marriage seems to come to an end, she onece again sees golden Volvo. She follows the car, and at the end of journey learns the truth about kidnapping. She gets her child back (how could it be otherwise?) and learns how to live after what happened.
It suprised me how Meghan and Jon had completely different reactions to kidnapping. Especially Jon. Sure, he cried a little at the beginning but later he seemed so detached, that I started wondering if he was somewhat guilty? And that Cornish accent - I was sure it was a clue, but it didn't really come into play till later. I can honestly say that I suspected the right pearson, but wasn't expecting the ending. Overall good job ;)
What to know what exactly happened and who was the kidnapper? I urge you to read the book, you won't be disappointed.

Otrzymałam kopię tej książki ze strony netgalley.com w zamian za szczerą recenzję.
Uwielbiam czytać książki, w których ciężko jednoznacznie powiedzieć kto jest sprawcą. "A Justified Bitch" jest taką właśnie książką. I to nie tak, że nie podejrzewałam prawdziwego sprawcy (bo tak było), ale brakowało mi argumentów na potwierdzenie mojej tezy. Ale od początku.
Witajcie w Las Vegas - mieście grzechu. Poznajcie Helen Taylor i jej dwadzieściakilka kotów. Chcecie wiedzieć o niej coś więcej? Jest troszeczkę zwariowaną kobietą która widziała morderstwo swojej sąsiadki. Problem polega na tym, że nie pamięta co pamięta, jak twierdzi jej siostra Pat. A może pamięta, ale boi się mówić? Wiecie dlaczego jest uważana za wariatkę? Tak się składa że rozmawia ze swoim mężem, Bobbym, który nie żyje od dziesięciu lat. Jake Madison jest policjantem, który prowadzi śledztwo. Wie że Helen coś widziała i chce pomóc jej przypomnieć sobie co. Jest też przekonany, że nie jest winna tego o co się ją podejrzewa. Mimo wszystko wolałby wiedzieć gdzie znajduje się w każdej chwili, choć nie musi przez ten czas być w celi. Kontaktuje się z siostrą Helen, Pat, aby zabrała ją z posterunku. Po rozmowach z Jakiem, Pat postanawia zostawić siostę w zakładzie psychiatrycznym, gdzie będzie bezpieczna, ale przedewszystkim pomogą jej tam przypomnieć sobie co zdarzyło się w dzień morderstwa.
Wtedy sprawca dokonuje następnego zabójstwa - ginie dyrektorka zakładu w którym przebywa Helen. Jednak Helen nie ma tam gdzie powinna być i nikt nie wie gdzie się znajduję. A jeśli wie, to nie chce mówić. Ponownie staje się podejrzaną numer jeden, tym bardziej, że jest jedynym ogniwem łączącym obie ofiary.
Ostatecznie sprwca ginie, a Helen obiecuje bardziej o siebie dbać. To smutne, że Helen zpomiała o Marcu, synie swoim i Bobby'ego. Mam wrażenie że to był sposób w jaki jej umysł pogodził się ze śmiercią męża. Dobrze, że Pat przyjęła go do swojej rodziny z otwartymi ramionami, aż się boję pomyśleć co by się z nim stało, gdyby został z Helen... Na pewno nie byłoby mu tak dobrze jak z Pat, chociaż kto wie, czy Helen nie byłaby mniej zwariowana :P Ale co się stało, to się nie odstanie - przeszłości nie można zmienić, jedynie przyszłość. Wygląda na to, że przyszłość Helen wygląda jaśniej, niż w ciągu ostatniej dekady.
Ta książka pokazuje, że rodzina jest wszystkim, nawet jeśli jej członkowie ze sobą nie rozmawiają przez lata, można na nich liczyć.
Polecam wszystkim fanom kryminałów - nie będziecie zawiedzwni.

I love reading books, in which you can't tell who the real culprit is. "A Justified Bitch" is this kind of book.
It's not that I didn't suspect the guilty party (because I did), but there wasn't much evidence to support this theory. But let's start from beginning.
Welcome in Las Vegas - city of sin. Meet Helen Taylor and her twenty-something cats. You want to know Helen Taylor? She is a (little) crazy lady who saw murderer of her neighbor. The problem is, she doesn't remember what she remember, as her sister, Pat, is saying. Or maybe she does remember, but is afraid to say it? You want to know why she is seen as crazy? Well... she happens to talk to her dead husband Bobby. Jake Madison is the cop in charge of the investigation. He knows that Helen saw something and wants to help her remember. He is pretty sure, that Helen didn't do what is suspected of her, but none the less would like to know where she is at all times, but she doesn't need to be in jail. They find her sister, and call her to come for her. After talking to Jake, Pat leaves Helen in mind care facility, hoping it will help her to remember what happened, and they would know she is safe.
But then, there is second murder and Helen isn't where she should be. The case is nobody knows where she went to, and those who knows aren't know to the police. She once again becomes number one suspect. She finally knows who is the real culprit and wants to confront him. Jordan, her nephew, wants to take her to police station, but she is adamant. In the end the culprit is dead and Helen promises to take better care of herself.
It's sad how she didn't remember she and Bobby had son. I guess it was her mind way of dealing with Bobby's death. Good, that Pat wanted Marc in her family, I don't want to even imagine what could happen with him, had he stayed with Helen. He probably wouldn't be as good as with Pat, but there is possibility that Helen would be... ekhem... less crazy ;P. But what happened, happened and we can't change the past, only the future. And it seems that Helen's future is looking brighter than in last decade. The book shows that family is everything, even when they haven't seen each other in years, and you always can count on them.
Do you want to know who is guilty? Then I suggest you read the book :)
I would recommend this book for every fan of suspence and mystery - you definitely won't be disappointed :)
